Percy William Pendrick was born in Kentford (Mildenhall Q1-1891 4A:773), baptised in Kentford (St Mary's) on 29th June 1893, son of Harry and Alice Selina PENDRICK (née COE).

1891 census...Aged 3 months, he was at Bury Road,Kentford, with his father Harry PENDRICK [25] platelayer born Hardwick, Cambs; his mother Alice S [22] born Cheveley and brother Charles A. [2] born Cheveley.

1911 census...Aged 20, a farm labourer, he was at Moulton Road, Gazeley, with his parents, brothers Charles and Robert(both farm labourers) and sisters Edith, Daisy, Edwina [8] and Nellie [6] both born in Gazeley. All 8 children still survived, sister Lily being a servant for the Watson's at the Post Office in Barrow.

He enlisted in Bury St. Edmunds.
There is a bit of a mystery here as the 2nd Battalion were in the Ypres Salient at that time, so it was most unlikely that Percy would be buried in France in the Grenay area, whereas the 9th Battalion were actually in the Grenay-Maroc area, suffering few casualties (There were only two buried in Maroc that died on the 27th, Percy and Walter Gooderham from Wortham and Percy is attributed to the 9th Suffolks. Just to add to the confusion, his medal card places him in the 7th Suffolks. The original card from CWGC for his burial places him in the 9th Suffolk, even if the register eventually says 2nd. In essence, the evidence points to the 9th Battalion.

The Bury Free Press of 3rd November 1917 reported:-
GAZELEY MAN KILLED

Mr. and Mrs. H. Penderick(sic) have received the official news that their son, Prvt Percy Penderick, was killed in action on Sept.27th. He was only 26 years of age, but had seen nearly three years of war, as he joined up in November 1914 and after the usual training, was sent out to France early in 1915. He had been three times wounded previous to his fatal blow. Mr Penderick has two other sons, both of whom enlisted about the same time as Percy. One of these is disabled with a paralyzed arm and the other is a L-Corporal of Stretcher Bearers and has won a Medal of Honour. Deep sympathy is felt for Mr. and Mrs.Penderick in their sorrow, and many of their friends and neighbours showed it by attending the memorial service that was held in the Parish Church by the Vicar (the Rev. W.T.Williams) in his memory.
